UNDERGROUND RADIO NETWORK
THE SONIC HERALD
ONLINE STREAMING: THROUGH A BROADCASTERS LENS
BY DAVID PAUL
(BETA TESTING AN ARTICLE)
From it's early days, streaming internet radio has taken a giant leap forward & especially with AI - the possibilities of a quick set up are inviting for a beginner to start streaming almost immediately without knowing any complex code.
Teixeira & Silva (2016) posit that distance communication through a digital environment such as "web radio" is no longer a barrier for communicators and educators alike . However, in the case of Underground Radio Network (for now at least) a commercial licence requires quite the financial backing & government approval (Teixeira & Silva 2016).
The golden era of analog & frequency modulation (FM) will always exist & at times, successfully co-exist with streaming services providing share holders & managers alike the certainly of a wider audience.
The emergence of web radio has revolutionised digital media. The shift from traditional radio platforms such as AM & FM still exist & co-exist to ensure stakeholders and managers alike that revenue is coming in through advertising methods. Accessing an array of digital devices from television to cellular & tablet devices means a wider audience can be obtained through various networked technologies.
Quality control is an issue that digital broadcasters face, especially with the emergence of AI. However, a bonus to online digital streaming is the real-time chat that some broadcasters can manage within their social media networks.
Internet radio can also give an audience a wider range of genres on multiple streams on the main website, as opposed to just one, which was one of the limitations of traditional broadcasting. One of the downsides of artificial intelligence is deciphering what is or isn’t authentic.
I've found that setting up an online radio station with just a streaming widget was limiting so, I decided to create the Sonic Herald as a means of informal academic journalism within the Underground Radio Network covering ideas from dance music culture to creative & information academic writing.
